STTF Board Member
CHRIS TALLENTIRE – SECRETARY

Chris Tallentire was Director of the Conservation Council of WA
from March 2004 to April 2008. He is the endorsed ALP candidate
for the next State election in the electorate of Gosnells. He was
formerly a senior environmental officer with the Water and Rivers
Commission and Department of Environmental Protection.
Chris’s first environmental campaign was in 1995 against
French nuclear testing. He didn’t brave the seas in a Zodiac,
but instead used his French language skills to implore the French
people to see reason and stop exploding bombs in the pacific.
Chris believes the unique natural heritage of Australia is our
greatest treasure, and that a full understanding of our natural
environment is critical to the development of a well founded national
identity.
Chris has been committed to the Stop The Toad campaign since March
2005, when he presented at the Kununurra cane toad forum. Here he
learnt of the scale of the ecological threat posed by toads, and
of the potential for WA to take action and keep the state toad free.
In response to the Kununurra forum the Conservation Council of WA
held a forum in Perth, which was attended by over 300 people. Chris
participated in the 2006 Great Toad Muster where he was struck by
the scale of the challenge and even more by the power of the community
desire to rally to the cause and keep cane toads out of WA.
